The first project called ‘Anker’ (50MW-IT), is located in the vicinity of Silicon Valley, near San Francisco’s “Internet Gateway” in northern California. The site is positioned at the cross section of the two largest bulk power transmission points in northern California (WAPA’s multi-500kV substation and CAISO’s similar Tesla substation) and a fiber backbone leaving the San Francisco Bay Area with multiple long-haul carriers.
The Anker site is within 80km of the San Francisco Bay metro data center market (the maximum distance between hyperscale data centers in any given availability zone) and is capable of delivering 5-9’s of reliability. Importantly, the site is located outside of PG&E/Santa Clara service territory which results in a substantial utility rate advantage (c. US$30/MWh spread) that Quinbrook regards as compelling for all hyperscale data center operators given the significance of power costs to the total cost of operations.
